Maui Luau Grand Wailea Review

During our last vacation to Hawaii, we visited Maui. For the first half of our trip, we stayed at the Grand Wailea Maui Resort. We have nothing but amazing things to say about our time there, but we’ll save that for another blog post! Since we were staying at the Grand Wailea, it made sense for our family to attend the Grand Wailea Luau on the resort grounds. When we visited, it was called The Grand Luau at Honua’ula, but it seems they changed the name after the New Year. It is now called Aha’aina Wailea, A Grand Wailea Luau.

The luau performers and staff are excellent at what they do, and the backdrop of the luau location is breathtaking. The Grand Wailea Luau has been voted the #1 Best Luau in South Maui by the Maui News readers’ poll, and we agree. We would return to the luau at the Grand Wailea in a heartbeat! If you are already staying at the Grand Wailea Maui Resort, it is a no-brainer activity to add to your itinerary. Read on for more information about the Grand Wailea Luau, our honest experience, and additional info about other luaus on Maui.

What is a Hawaii luau?

What type of food is served at the Grand Wailea Luau?

The food at the luau was terrific, as expected. It offers a variety of authentic Hawaiian appetizers, entrees, desserts, and an open bar. The fresh poke and salmon were delicious. Admittedly, the potato mac salad and sweet bread rolls (served with macadamia nut butter) made it very difficult to save room for dinner and dessert. Our favorite entrées were the grilled flank steak and the traditional kalua pork. The dessert options were outstanding, and our favorites were the coconut cake and the Hawaiian haupia. There is an open bar with wine, beer, mixed drinks, and soft drinks. The bar kept mai tais and pina coladas stocked, but the bartender also took requests.

The dinner is served buffet style and is all you can eat! It’s an excellent opportunity to make sure you get a fill of your favorites and to make sure to try authentic Hawaiian cuisine.

There were a handful of yard games available to enjoy before things get underway, as well. Before the buffet, there is an informative imu ceremony where they unearth the kalua pig. The show, of course, involves crowd participation, which is always a blast. Another bonus was the artisan vendors on the along of the property to watch, learn, and purchase souvenirs from.
